McKee Manor was funded under the Section 202 Housing Program through the
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and opened in 1983 to provide affordable housing for older adults age 62 years of age or older in the Eastern Kentucky area. Currently the property has an age waiver from HUD to be able to provide housing to individuals 55 years of age or older. 

The primary sponsor of the property is the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington. The property was developed by and continues to be professionally managed by Southeastern Management Center.

The property is well-maintained by a dedicated, caring staff and has received many "Superior" ratings on HUD Management Reviews and 100% on HUD REAC (Physical) Inspection.
